About Us

David Benn is registered with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia. He graduated as an Occupational Therapist from the University of Sydney, Cumberland College of Health Sciences in 1993. He completed a Master of Health Sciences (Occupational Therapy- Hand therapy) at the University of Sydney in 2002. He is a long time full member of the Australian Hand Therapy Association and is a Certified Hand Therapist (1999, Hand Therapy Certification Commission).

David has 24 years clinical experience in hand therapy. This began in the mid 1990s as a relatively new graduate being given the opportunity to work as a member of a team in a busy hand surgery private practice.  He has sought mentors throughout his career and learned invaluable lessons and skills from senior clinicians.

Research has been an essential aspect of David’s work as a hand therapist. Throughout his career he has collected and presented data at local, national and international meetings. This has included an outcome study on distal radius fractures, post operative therapy for Proximal Interphalangeal Joint replacement, outcomes following decompression of the posterior interosseous nerve in chronic tennis elbow and alternate splint design for dynamic PIP joint extension splinting.

David continues to work full time as a hand therapist with the same enthusiasm as he had as a new graduate. He lectures at Newcastle University each year to Occupational Therapy undergraduates in the specialty area of hand therapy.
